I pointed out that his withdrawal would probably have him in DTs within 6 hours and headed for death. I told him I would buy him a pint of vodka to take the edge off on the way to detox, or I would leave him to die. He agreed to my terms. He killed the pint of vodka during the 20 minute ride to detox. They safely detoxed him with medications over a 7 day period and he is sober to this day.
